Department of Data Science & Analytics Fair

A month after becoming Co-Lead of the Data Science and Analytics Department, I stood in front of 45 of our members at PUP Manila to answer a simple question: what are data science and analytics, really?

Instead of starting with tools, I started with the data itself. We went through the Vs of data, the handful of words that describe what makes data big and messy, so members had a way to think about data before touching any code. Seeing people connect those ideas to things they already use every day told me we’d picked the right starting point.

The fair became the first step of a bigger journey. Since then I’ve taught AWS (EC2, Lambda, Redshift, S3) and Looker Studio across 5+ workshops and mentoring sessions, helped bring 300+ members into hands-on cloud and data projects, and written the technical curriculum the whole department now uses.
