I came to the PyTorch Philippines meetup to hear how data science looks outside the classroom, and the speakers delivered.

Giorgio Armani Magno of EY GDS opened with what the new PyTorch Philippines community hopes to become. Jude Michael Teves of the Asian Development Bank showed what data science and AI engineering look like in practice, and John Paul Curada of the AWS Student Builder Group PUP walked through building and deploying machine learning models on AWS.

The highlight for me was the fireside chat. Hector Banda and Micholo Lanz Medrana of EY GDS, Jude Michael Teves, and Rafael Ronquillo of Smart Communications talked openly about how they approach their work. Hearing their philosophies side by side showed me that good data science is as much about judgment and asking the right questions as it is about models.
